To our knowledge, we are using global classifications of Stainless Steel on our website. However, we are getting questions of equivalency of our Carbon Steels to AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute).  Therefore, we have decided to add AISI classifications of Carbon Steels on our website.

All carbon steel sheet metal contains carbon as the primary alloying element, making it strong, durable, and versatile. Carbon steels are widely used in construction, automotive, manufacturing, and industrial applications. BSS supplies medium carbon and high carbon steel.

Medium Carbon Steel (0.3%–0.6% Carbon)
Advantages: Stronger and harder than low-carbon steel
Disadvantages:
Usage: Cutting tools, forging, train wheels, structural components

Supply: 1038 steel, 1040 carbon steel, 1045 steel, 1050 carbon steel, 1055 carbon steel.

High Carbon Steel Sheet (0.6%–1.5% Carbon)
Advantages: Extremely strong
Disadvantages: Less ductile, can be brittle

Usage: Tools, cutting instruments, and high-wear applications

Supply: 1070 steel, carbon steel 1075, 1080 steel, 1084 steel, 1095 carbon steel.
